In 1981 Marshall started working in the field of upholstery and found a love for making someone’s favorite old chair into someone’s favorite new chair.
In 1985 Marshall started his business in the back of his uncle’s garage. (Kauffman’s Custom Upholstery) He started out reupholstering furniture for friends & a few decorators.
Marshall started offering a guarantee with his work which is a 5 year warranty on all of the labor that goes into reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Once the word got out that Marshall was in business, the phone started ringing and people that had furniture that needed to be reupholstered contacted Marshall and he had to quickly grow from a 2 car garage to the building where Kauffman’s resides now at 440 Elm Street, Reading Pa 19601.
Kauffman’s grew to where he had 8 employees at one time and business was booming, but Marshall found out quickly that it was not about quantity but quality and cut back to just 3 employees.
In 1995 we expanded our business from Upholstery to Carpet / Tile & Grout Cleaning business and not only has business taken off but it has blossomed with the Carpet Cleaning business.
Just over the last year we have also learned so much more about floors and we now also strip & wax floors as well as do monthly janitorial work as well for a number of different businesses.
The thing that we take pride in is a satisfied customer and one that not only tells others about the service Kauffman’s provided for them but comes back for work to be done over and over again!
